The Sum of All Fears, the Ben Affleck/Morgan Freeman flick that was number one last week, took the top spot again this week according to studio estimates released Sunday.
The Fears take of roughly $18.7 million almost doubled the take of the new nuclear terrorist flick opening this weekend, Bad Company, which debuted in fourth spot with an estimated $10.5 million. Bad company was beaten out by the Sandra Bullock vehicle Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood and Attack of the Clones.
The roughly 80% female audience showed their Sisterhood by plunking down nearly $16.4 million to see Sandra Bullock, Ashley Judd and Ellen Burstyn. George Lucas saw his film drop to third with $13.9 million. Analysts (and Fox’s executive VP of distribution) are predicting Clones will end up the a North American take just over $300 million, below the $431 million The Phantom Menace took in.
In its sixth weekend, Spider-Man rounded out the top 5 with roughly $10 million.
