Christopher Ashton Kutcher was born on February 7th, 1978 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Due to his twin brother’s cerebral palsy and heart ailment, Kutcher found himself motivated to attend the University of Iowa as a biochemical engineering student. He took on many odd jobs during that time but the most lucrative one for him was modeling. In 1997, Ashton was entered into a contest at New York City’s International Modeling and Talent Association Convention. Kutcher lost out to fellow future star Josh Duhamel, but still landed work modeling for Calvin Klein and Abercrombie and Fitch and working the runways in Paris and Milan.
In 1998, Kutcher moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career and quickly landed the role of the dim-witted Michael Kelso in That 70’s Show opposite Mila Kunis and Topher Grace. He would play that role from 1998 to 2006.
On the big screen, he was seen in 1999’s Coming Soon. That was followed by 2000’s Down To You and the critically-slammed Dude Where’s My Car? opposite Seann William Scott and Jennifer Garner. The next year, he was in Texas Rangers.
A busy in 2003 saw Ashton starring in Just Married with then-girlfriend Brittany Murphy, My Boss’s Daughter with Tara Reid and Cheaper by the Dozen starring Steve Martin. That same year also saw him producing MTV’s Punk’d, a series that pulled elaborate pranks on Kutcher’s peers like Justin Timberlake and Jessica Alba. In 2004, he starred in the underrated drama The Butterfly Effect which was followed by 2005’s Guess Who and A Lot Like Love with Amanda Peet.
In 2006, he and wife Demi Moore were part of the ensemble in Emilio Estevez’s Bobby and Kutcher also made The Guardian with Kevin Costner. He then starred with Cameron Diaz in 2008’s What Happens in Vegas. 2009 saw Ashton in Spread with Anne Heche and Personal Effects with Michelle Pfeiffer.
In 2010, Kutcher appeared in the huge ensemble cast of Valentine’s Day. The film, directed by Garry Marshall, also starred (you might want to pack a lunch for this) Jessica Alba, Kathy Bates, Jessica Biel, Bradley Cooper, Eric Dane, Patrick Dempsey, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Topher Grace, Anne Hathaway, Queen Latifah, Taylor Lautner, George Lopez, Shirley MacLaine, Julia Roberts and Taylor Swift…among others.
Besides Punk’d, Kutcher’s production company was also behind shows like You’ve Got a Friend and Beauty and the Geek. An avid Twitterer, Ashton also heads a social media firm that helps brands interact with their customers.
On the personal side, Kutcher married actress Demi Moore in 2005.
