Rebecca Sara Newton was born on July 4, 1978 in New Haven, Connecticut. Newton’s desire to perform came at an early age when she started acting in school productions. When she graduated high school, she studied European history at the University of Pennsylvania, spending sveral semesters in Europe and South America.

After graduation in 2000, Newton moved to New York City to pursue acting full time. After several commercials and a hosting gig on 2001’s Burly TV, she moved onto guest-starring roles on Cold Case, The Men’s Room, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Charmed and a small recurring role on American Dreams.

Her film debut was in 2004’s P.S. with Laura Linney, Gabriel Byrne and Topher Grace. In 2006, Becki landed the role of Amanda Tanen in Ugly Betty, where she made America Ferrera’s character’s job life a living hell. In this time, she was seen in a small role in 2007’s August Rush which starred Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Myers and Freddie Highmore.

In 2005, Newton married actor Chris Diamantopoulos, whom she met by chance on a subway platform in New York. After talking for a while, he invited her to see him in the musical he was starring in, The Full Monty.
