You don’t have to be a UFO-loving, paranoid freak to love Dana Scully on The X-Files. But I am and I do.
Why do guys love Dana’s real-life alter ego Gillian Anderson so much? I think it’s because she plays an intelligent, strong, insightful, gun-toting FBI doctor on TV and then when she goes off to do magazine interviews she always seems to end up in her underwear or lingerie. It’s as if she thinks her character is viewed as dull and needs to overcompensate when she does PR outside the role. Hey, we’re not complaining about the little amount of clothing in the photo shoots, but Gillian, I think most guys would rather spend a weekend with Dana Scully than a week with Ally McBeal. So don’t think the character’s dull.
Anyway, just had to get that point across. Besides being loved by the fans, Gillian Anderson’s work is admired by her peers and the press too. Her mantle currently holds a Golden Globe, an Emmy, and a Screen Actors Guild award. If she can get nominated for an X-Files movie, and if Chris Carter writes a stage musical version, maybe she can get an Oscar and a Tony for it too.
