8:00 PM ET
The show starts with Conan O'Brien's plane going down. He fashions a hair dryer out of twigs and after talking to Jorge Garcia from Lost, he goes through a hatch to The Office set. talks to Chloe and Jack from 24 and then gets diagnosed by Dr. House. He ends up in South Park, where he's tossed from the closet by Tom Cruise and then gets caught as a predator by Dateline.

Conan takes to the stage. "Welcome to the 58th and final Emmy Awards. I'll explain later."
"This is my second time hosting. The third time's a charm."
Conan then does a musical number from The Music Man that pokes fun at the troubles TV is facing.

Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey are tonight's first presenters, handing out Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. And the Emmy goes to Megan Mullally. "Here come the waterworks. We had eight great years of happy employment." She's also the first person to get played off.

Sean Hayes and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss present Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. And the Emmy goes to Alan Alda, who's not there to accept.

Conan discusses the problems of "going over". He's placed Bob Newhart in an airtight chamber with three hours of air. As he talks about nominated father-son teams, Charlie and Martin Sheen jump their cue and walk out. They're presenting Supporting Actress in a Drama. And the Emmy goes to Blythe Danner. She seems a bit flustered and excited. And the timing is really short for the speeches as she gets played off too.

Jaime Pressly and Jason Lee present Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. And the Emmy goes to Jeremy Piven. "I have to act, I can't do anything else."

Dennis Haysbert and William L. Petersen present Supporting Actress in a Mini-Series/Movie to Kelly Macdonald for The Girl In The Café. Her speech is short and sweet and she doesn't get played off.

Heidi Klum, John Lithgow and Jeffrey Tambor present the Emmy for Outstanding Variety, Music Or Comedy Series. And the Emmy goes to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. "I think this year you actually made a terribe mistake."

Jennifer Love Hewitt and Ron Livingston mention the previously announced winners for Guest Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series. They welcome the winners, Cloris Leachman and Leslie Jordan. They present the Emmy for Director of a Comedy Series to My Name is Earl's Marc Buckland. He says when he used to watch the Emmys and they'd present the directing awards, he'd think "Get back to the actors. They also present Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series to Greg Garcia for the My Name is Earl pilot. "I'd like to thank God, but you took my hair and that's not cool."

Simon Cowell gets a few boos as he introduces the tribute to Dick Clark. Clark, who suffered a stroke, sits at a podium and even makes a joke that the show would have gone long if he walked out. He says that "everyone should be blessed to have their dreams come true." He then introduces Barry Manilow, who sings "Bandstand."

Tina Fey and Tracy Morgan present Outstanding Individual Performance In A Variety Or Music Program. And the Emmy goes to Barry Manilow for the special Barry Manilow: Music And Passion. "I want to share this with Dick Clark."

Conan then introduces "a woman with two first names and a man with two last", Evangeline Lilly and Wentworth Miller. They pay tribute to the Guest Star winners for Drama, Christian Clemenson and Patricia Clarkson. Patricia's not there, so Christian Clemenson presents the Direction for a Drama Series to 24's Jon Cassar. Evangeline and Wentworth then present the Writing for a Drama Series Emmy to The Soprano's Terence Winter.

"She's got the kind of beauty wars are fought over, he has the type of moustache that traps a lot of food," says Conan as he introduces Mariska Hargitay and Tom Selleck. They're presenting Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Miniseries Or A Movie. And the Emmy goes to Jeremy Irons.

Megan Mullally and Howie Mandel are presenting the Directing Award for Variety. The winner is Louis J. Horvitz, who makes his speech from a truck out back, where he's directing the Emmys. Megan and Howie also present Outstanding Writing For A Variety, Music Or Comedy Program. And the Emmy goes to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He gives a "shout out to the Colbert folks."

Hugh Laurie and Helen Mirren present Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie. And the Emmy goes to Thief's Andre Braugher.

Bradley Whitford and Matthew Perry present Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Tony Shalhoub once again wins for Monk.

Candice Bergen introduces Dick Askin, the head of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, who introduces Joan Collins, Stephen Collins and Heather Locklear to begin the tribute to Aaron Spelling.

Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith of Charlie's Angels continue the tearful tribute to Aaron.

Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart step out. "Good evening, godless Sodomites," says Colbert. They're presenting Outstanding Reality Competition. And the Emmy goes to The Amazing Race for the fourth year in a row.

Katherine Heigl and Omar Epps are presenting the Emmy for Outstanding Directing For A Miniseries, Movie Or A Dramatic Special. And the Emmy goes to Tom Hooper for Elizabeth I. They then present Outstanding Writing For A Miniseries, Movie Or A Dramatic Special to Richard Curtis for The Girl in the Café. Richard's not there.

Felicity Huffman and Kiefer Sutherland lead off the final half hour (we hope) with Outstanding Lead Actress In A Miniseries Or A Movie. And the Emmy goes to Helen Mirren for Elizabeth I. "My greatest acheivement is not falling ass over tit as I climbed the stairs." Wow...maybe the accent got "tit" past the bleeps.

Calista Flockhart and Craig Ferguson both say "ass over tit" so it's a T'n'A evening. They're giving out the hardware for Lead Actress in a Drama Series. And the Emmy goes to Mariska Hargitay for Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.

Tyra Banks and Victor Garber inform us we're running long and prepare to present Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. And the Emmy goes to a very, very surprised Julia Louis-Dreyfus. "Curse this, baby!" she says refering to the "Seinfeld curse". She almost forgets her husband, Brad Hall, but Debra Messing reminds her from the audience.
