Jolie gets the high score

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider was number one at the box office this weekend and it didn’t even have a rave review from a fake critic.

Video game antics, short shorts, tight tops and big guns had boys flocking to see the Angelina Jolie movie to the tune of an estimated $47.7 million. That made it the biggest opening for a film based on a video game and the biggest opening for a film focused on a female lead.

Divide that number in half and subtract a few million and you have the take of the number two film, Disney’s Atlantis: The Lost Empire, which splashed onto the scene with $20.3 million.

Shrek continued to amuse audiences with a $13.2 million haul. The computer animated film, which features the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz, now has $197.5 million after five weeks.

Meanwhile, John Travolta’s Swordfish took a 30% dive to fourth spot with a $12.8 million.

The Ben Affleck vehicle, Pearl Harbor, dropped another 33% to the 5th spot with $9.9 million.
