Good weekend for Denzel, bad one for Minnie

Denzel Washington’s true story flick Remember the Titans pulled in $20.1 million at the box office this weekend, despite the fact that it was the closing weekend of the Sydney Olympics.
Denzel’s film, which pulled in roughly $11,400 per screen, was his best career opening.
On the other end of the spectrum, the opening for Minnie Driver’s Beautiful was anything but. The directorial debut of Sally Field, which had ugly reviews, ended up with $1.4 million, or $2,182 per screen.
Unlike Beautiful, Christopher Guest’s Best in Show was no dog at the box office. Though it was in limited release this weekend, appearing in 13 theatres, it earned a whopping $31,803 per screen average.
