Hanks to receive AFI tribute

Tom Hanks will receive the American Film Institute’s 30th AFI Life Achievement Award. The tribute will take place at the new Kodak Theater in Hollywood on June 22nd, 2002.
AFI board of trustees chairman Howard Stringer said that “Tom Hanks is American film’s Everyman for a new generation. It is fitting that he receive the award from the nation’s preeminent cultural arts organization as his talent and commitment to his craft is only matched by his great respect for and understanding of American history.”
