Washington helmer gets greenlight

Fox Searchlight has given the go ahead for Denzel Washington’s directorial debut. The project is an autobiographical tale written by a new screenwriter who used to be a guard on the Sony lot.

The story follows Antwone Fisher as a young sailor sent to a Navy psychiatrist because of a violent temper. The psychiatrist uncovers an abused childhood.

No talent has been connected to the picture yet, though Denzel may play the Navy doctor.
