Final tally even better for Harry
Nov 20, 2002 by Ian Evans
The final tally for the weekend had Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets earn about a million or so more than the original estimates with a magical take of $88.3 million, making it the third highest opening ever.
Eminem’s 8 Mile dropped 62% off of its opening with $19.3 million, but with such a big opening last week, it’s still earned over $84 million in just two weeks. Jolly old St. Nick managed third spot with Santa Clause 2: The Mrs. Clause adding another $15 million to its pot while Naomi Watts and The Ring continue to scare up business, adding another $10.6 million and crossing the $100 million mark. The new Steven Seagal flick, Half Past Dead, rounded out the top five with $7.8 million.
