Despite poor reviews that had the film linked more to number 2, Scooby-Doo managed to grab the top spot this past weekend with a $54.2 million haul.
Matt Damon’s spy flick The Bourne Identity opened in second place with $27.1 million, while Nicolas Cage and Windtalkers had to settle for third and a relatively weak $14.5 million.
Damon’s writing partner, Ben Affleck, saw his film, The Sum of All Fears, take in another $13.5 million, bring its three week total to just over $84 million.
George Lucas’ Attack of the Clones rounded out the top five with just over $9.4 million in its fifth week.
