Witherspoon tops the weekend

Reese Witherspoon proved she had drawing power this weekend when her Sweet Home Alabama took the top spot over the weekend with an estimated gross of $37.5 million — a September record.

DreamWorks’ The Tuxedo, which stars Jackie Chan and Jennifer Love Hewitt, took in an OK $15.1 million for number two despite reviews that ranged from harsh to so-so.

Meanwhile the winner of the past two weeks, MGM’s Barbershop, shaved just 21% off the previous weekend and went to third spot with $10.1 million over a third weekend.
