Resurrected zombies defeat Jesus

Jesus’ reign atop the weekend box office was ended this weekend when a bunch of zombies took first place.
The Dawn of the Dead remake took the top spot with a $27.3 million haul, while Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ finally went to number two with a $19.2 million weekend. Gibson’s flick now has a total take of just under $300 million.
Angelina Jolie’s new crime thriller Taking Lives debuted at number three this weekend. The film, which also stars Ethan Hawke, opened with $11.4 million. In its third weekend, the Ben Stiller/Owen Wilson comedy Starsky & Hutch took fourth with $10.7 million, while Johnny Depp and Secret Window rounded out the top five with $9.6 million.
