Paul Winfield dies

Actor Paul Winfield, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Sounder, has died at the age of 62. The actor, who had recently suffered a stroke, died of a heart attack on Sunday night. His last role was a cameo appearance in an ABC remake of Sounder.
On TV, Winfield played Diahann Carroll’s love interest on the sitcom Julia from 1968 to 1971. He also earned Emmy nominations for his title role in the 1978 mini-series King and for his supporting performance in Roots: The Next Generation. He won an Emmy in 1995 for his guest role in the CBS series Picket Fences.
