Troy may have been the number one film over the weekend, taking in $46.8 million, but the poorly-reviewed Brad Pitt flick didn’t break any opening records and will have a way to go to make up its production and marketing budget, which is just shy of $200 million.
Last week’s number one, Van Helsing, took a 60% stumble to the second spot, taking in $20.7 million in its second weekend. Mean Girls, which stars Lyndsay Lohan, continues to show some legs with a third place finish. Its $10.1 million gives it over $55 million in three weeks. The film cost just $17 million.
The Denzel Washington actioner Man on Fire added another $5.1 million to its box office, while newcomer Breakin’ All the Rules rounded out the top five with $5 million.
