Mel Gibson’s Icon Distribution is filing a lawsuit against America’s #1 movie chain, Regal Entertainment Group, saying the exhibitor withheld $40 million in box office seats from The Passion of the Christ.
According to the suit, the agreement between the two parties alloted 55% of the receipts to Icon. Regal informed Icon in May that it would only pay 34%.
Besides the $40 million, the suit is also claiming punitive damages. Regal has declined comment on the matter.
