Nick and Jessica call it quits

Stick a fork in it, Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson’s marriage is done.

The stars of MTV’s Newlyweds have finally made official what the press has been saying for months: they’re split. Kudos to the PR people who released the info just as the US was moving into its four-day Thanksgiving holiday.

In a joint statement, the pair (and by that we mean Nick and Jessica, not Simpson’s chest) said that, “After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways. This is the mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other. We hope that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.”

The couple married in October of 2002 and went on to make their married life open to reality television. Both had struggling careers before, but their TV exploits made them have headline appeal.
