Diesel drives to top spot

Weekend estimates for the North American box office have Vin Diesel’s family comedy The Pacifier taking the top spot over John Travolta’s Get Shorty sequel Be Cool. The Pacifier soothed an estimated $30.2 million out of filmgoer’s wallets, while Be Cool’s second place position was earned with an estimated $23.5 million opening.
The Will Smith comedy Hitch held onto third spot with $12.5 million while last week’s number one, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, dropped to fourth with a second weekend take of $12 million. The Academy Awards’ Best Picture winner, Million Dollar Baby, rounded out the top five with $8.5 million.
Final figures will be released Monday.
