Estimates for this weekend’s box office put Ridley Scott’s Crusades epic, Kingdom of Heaven in the top spot. The film, which features Orlando Bloom and Liam Neeson, took in an estimated $20 million. This was enough to beat the “remake” of House of Wax which, though it promised viewers a grisly Paris Hilton death scene, came in second with an estimated $12.2 million opening.
Last week’s numero uno pic, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, dropped to the third position in its second weekend with $9.1 million.
Paul Haggis’ critically-acclaimed Crash had a very strong showing. It played on less than 2000 screens but managed to open with roughly $9.1 million, while The Interpreter rounded out the top five with $7.5 million.
