Miami Vice wins weekend but Pirates still strong

Miami Vice may have topped the box office this weekend, but it was hardly the broadside against Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest that some outlets have made it out to be. Guess they’re just having fun using the word “sinks” in their headlines.
Miami Vice opened to $25.2 million, but that’s nothing compared to Pirate’s triple digit opening or its strong second weekend. Also note that second place was less than $5 million away as it added another $20.5 million to its booty.
The teen flick John Tucker Must Die was third with $14 million. The computer-animated Monster House took in $11.5 million in its second week, while The Ant Bully rounded out the top five with a disappointing $8.1 million.
