Beowulf thrills in three dimensions

The computer-animated Beowulf slayed the competition this weekend, with a $27.5 million opening, 40% of that take coming from 3D screenings of the flick.
Jerry Seinfeld’s Bee Movie buzzed into second spot, while Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington stole the third spot — and crossed $100 million — with a $12.8 million third weekend for American Gangster.
Fred Claus, took in $11.9 million in its second week, while Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, which stars Dustin Hoffman and Natalie Portman, rounded out the top five with $9.6 million.
