David Cook wins American Idol

25-year-old David Cook won American Idol tonight, besting the other David, 17-year-old David Archuleta, by a 12 million vote margin.

Though the judges had basically said it was Archuleta’s win last night, Cook ended up the big winner with 56% of the vote. Though ratings have been down this season, the finale garnered 97.5 million votes, compared to last season’s 74 million.
