Davy Jones, best known as the cute singer on the TV series The Monkees, has died of a heart attack at the age of 66.
The British-born Jones joined Mike Nesmith, Peter Tork and Mickey Dolenz in the Beatles-inspired TV series The Monkees in 1965. Though they didn’t originally play any of their instruments, with the help of songwriters like Neil Diamond and Carole King & Gerry Goffin they had chart-topping hits like “I’m a Believer” and “Pleasant Valley Sunday”. The series was cancelled in 1968 and Jones left the band in 1970. Dolenz, Tork and Jones reunited in the Eighties for nostalgia tours.
