Director John Singleton dead at 51

Boyz N the Hood director John Singleton has died at the age of 51. Singleton, who was the first black director to receive an Academy Award nomination, had a major stroke on April 17th. He died after the decision was made to take him off life support. He was surrounded by family and friends.

Singleton, who also directed a remake of Shaft, Poetic Justice
, and 2 Fast 2 Furious, most recently was working on the FX crime drama Snowfall.
