The 28th Toronto International Film Festival is just 35 days away and the list of galas is starting to shape up.
Academy Award® winner Jane Campion’s In the Cut will receives its world premiere in September when its gala takes place at Roy Thompson Hall.Based on Susanna Moore’s bestselling novel of the same name, the film stars Meg Ryan, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Nick Damici, and Kevin Bacon. A psychological thriller combining elements of modern love and modern crime, In the Cut explores the darker side of passion when a lonely New York woman becomes involved with a tough homicide detective who is investigating a series of murders in her neighbourhood.
Ridley Scott’s Matchstick Men receives its North American premiere at the Festival. Based on Eric Garcia’s novel of the same name, the film stars Nicolas Cage, Sam Rockwell, Alison Lohman, and Bruce McGill. Fast-paced and funny, Matchstick Men is a clever and imaginative look at how the life of a small-time con man is upset by the unexpected arrival of his teenage daughter.
Director Michael Winterbottom’s Code 46 also gets the Gala treatment for its North American premiere. Starring Tim Robbins and Samantha Morton, Code 46 is a compelling love story that travels into an eerily possible near-future where cities are heavily controlled and only accessible through checkpoints.
There also be the North American premiere of director Margarethe von Trotta’s Rosenstrasse. Starring Katja Riemann, Maria Schrader, Jutta Lampe, Svea Lohde, and Doris Schade, Rosenstrasse tells the moving story of three women whose identities are linked by a unique event in history.
