Welcome to Digital Hit's live coverage and commentary for the 30th Annual People's Choice Awards.

The top vote-getters for the 30th Annual People's Choice Awards were announced on December 2nd, 2003. If you saw DigitalHit.com's Ian Evans' appearance as a commentator on VH1 Goes Inside the People's Choice Awards, you'll know what to expect from the night ahead. The PCA's are the wink-wink awards show where the winners know that they've won, yet everyone pretends to be surprised.

9:02 PM ET

The hosts for this evening's festivities are Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer from TV's Two and a Half Men. When Cryer said that the PCA's are "Chosen by the people, for the people and of the people", Sheen said he sounded like his dad, Martin Sheen, who plays the President on The West Wing. They pointed out that the People's Choice Awards are voted on by the "people" while most other awards are voted by select committees of Hollywood insiders, "except for the Golden Globes, which are selected by a Tic-Tac eating chicken."

Okay...based on the guest list, let's work on the assumption that Jim Carrey, Mel Gibson, and Oprah will win tonight.

9:09 PM ET

The first presenter of the night was Hector Elizondo. He said he's been acting for longer than the PCAs have been around, but everywhere he looks on the dial now, he sees people with no talent or ability taking up hours of the schedule. Needless to say he's presenting the award for Favorite Reality-Based Program. The winner: Survivor: Pearl Islands. Show creator Mark Burnett thanked the people for voting for them for 4 years.

9:15 PM ET

Sheen pointed out that some of the categories were voted on the Internet. Cryer felt that it was a good time to announce that his wardrobe would be chosen by the 'net too. Trading Spaces's Genevieve Gorder then explained how the Internet voting worked.

Jon Cryer then came out in a garish Snoop Dogg-esque suit. He announced that "trust was fragile" and decided to suspend wardrobe voting. He then introduced Brooks & Dunn for a musical performance.

Cold Case's Kathryn Morris then presented the award for Favorite Talk Show Host to (surprise, she's in the audience) Oprah Winfrey.

9:28 PM ET

Chery Hines and Anthony Clark were the next presenters of the evening. They were on hand to present the PCA for Favorite Female Television Performer. The winner was Jennifer Aniston. Jennifer wasn't there, so luckily for us, she had taped a thank you speech.

Joe Mantegna and Amber Tamblyn of Joan of Arcadia were on hand to present Favorite Television Dramatic Series. Amber's character talks to God on the show, so Joe asked if she had any divine info on the winner. "Are you kidding," she replied. "I don't even know if we're getting picked up for a second season." The winner was CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. The award was accepted by series star Marg Helgenberger.

9:41 PM ET

Without a Trace star Anthony LaPaglia presented the PCA for Favorite Television Comedy Series. Friends' Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry accepted the PCA for their series. They had a hard time making their speech, because the fans in the upper balcony wouldn't stop screaming. When the band tried to play Matt LeBlanc off, Matthew Perry pointed out that they hadn't had a chance to say anything yet.

Still Standing's Jamie Gertz and Mark Addy had the task of presenting Favorite Male Television Performer. Gertz said that Addy was her choice, but he pointed out that he was not nominated. He added that her vote was more important than actually being nominated. "Really?" she said. "Wow, I am a good actor," he added. The winner was three-time winner Ray Romano. For the third time he brought his twin sons on stage with them.

9:54 PM ET

Reba McEntire did a little poem to introduce the category of Favorite Female Musical Performer. A lil' PCA trivia: Reba won this category eight years in a row. The winner tonight: a tie. The first winner is Faith Hill, who sent a taped thanks. The other winner: Beyoncé Knowles. Not only did she have a pre-taped thanks, but she also congratulated co-winner Faith Hill. See how this complete lack of surprise thing works?

10:02 PM ET

Ted McGinley and Faith Ford presented the award for Favorite Music Video. The winner is Toby Keith for "I Love This Bar." It's Toby's first PCA.

Next up, Charlie's Platoon co-star Forest Whitaker. He was on hand to present Favorite Motion Picture Actor to Mel Gibson. Ooops...wait he hasn't opened the envelope yet. And the winner is Mel Gibson.

10:15 PM ET

Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen wandered out next to present the winner for Favorite Dramatic Motion Picture. The winner is The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

CSI's Gary Dourdan and Jorja Fox were the next duo to hand out some PCA hardware. Joan of Arcadia's Joe Mantegna accepted the win for the Internet-voted category of Favorite New Television Dramatic Series.

Calendar girl Brooke Burke then intro'd a shameless bit of advertising: Pantene's look at the wonderful actresses who've won over the years, and of course their hair. After the clip she also announced that Julia Roberts had won the category of Favorite Motion Picture Actress.

'Nsync's Lance Bass and SVU's Tamara Tunie presented the category of Favorite Musical Group or Band to Matchbox Twenty. Singer Rob Thomas thanked "the people" via a taped message.

10:34 PM ET

Mandy Moore and Mark Harmon had the task of handing out Favorite Comedy Motion Picture to Bruce Almighty. Jim Carrey was on hand to accept the award. He said that not only was it a big win for the film, but he was glad that the entire Hollywood community had now accepted Jesus Christ as their lord and saviour. "Thank you my Jewish friends," he yelled. He then brought four girls down from the balcony so that the producers could thank the people.

10:45 PM ET

The young stars of 8 Simple Rules, Kaley Cuoco, Amy Davidson and Martin Spanjers, presented the winner of the Interet-voted Favorite New Television Comedy Series, an award they won last year with their beloved co-star, the late John Ritter. The winner: Two and a Half Men. The award was accepted by Jon and Charlie's pint-sized co-star Angus T. Jones. He said the show would soon need to be named Three Men.

Variety writer and PCA co-founder Army Archerd then presented the PCA for Favorite All-Time Entertainer to Tom Hanks. Hanks was not there, but of course his pre-taped thanks was.

10:54 PM ET

Running short on time, Charlie Sheen announced the winner of Favorite Male Musical Performer: Tim McGraw. Tim thanked the people via tape.

Cuba Gooding Jr. then presented the last category of the night, Favorite Motion Picture. The winner: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer accepted the award. He thanked the whole creative staff including Disney chief Michael Eiser "who wrote a big check."
