33rd Toronto International Film Festival Coverage: Day Ten
It’s hard to believe that ten days of press conferences and red carpets are over. It’s even harder to believe I can actually sleep in tomorrow.
The Closing Night Gala of the 33rd Toronto International Film Festival is director Charles Martin Smith’s Stone of Destiny.
Starring Charlie Cox, Billy Boyd, Robert Carlyle, Kate Mara and Brenda Fricker, the film follows the return of the Stone of Scone on Christmas Day in 1950.
For those weak on their Scottish-English history, the stone was used in Scottish coronation ceremonies and captured by England’s King Edward I in 1296. The film is based on the true events of 1950, when four Scottish students managed to take the stone from Westminster Abbey and take it back to Scotland, breaking it in the process.
Charles Martin Smith and several of his young cast strolled the final red carpet of the 2008 festival.
So there you have it. Until next year…
